A Guest in My Home

I make the payments, I do,
but I don’t own this place, no way.

I certainly live here, that’s true,
but I’m more like a guest, sort of.

I buy all of the supplies, that too,
but I don’t shop for me, not first.

I choose the furniture, of course,
but I always sit last, oh my.

I’m the largest one here, by far,
but I don’t make the rules, not me.

I suppose I could change, I know,
but I’d rather have a cat, I would.

Limitations

The package promised
      so much -
a magic wand
that cured the
world's worst
problems and
granted any wishes.

But when I opened
      the box
I discovered
no batteries,
assembly required,
and a warranty that
expires in 90 days.

Be Grateful They Don’t

1   Heretofore, appertaining
2   thereto, with a sound
3   mind I solemnly declare the
4   following cheerful words for
5   the edification of scholars:
6   Be us all grateful that
7   attorneys (hereafter
8   referred to as THEM) don't
9   (i.e., do not) write poetry
10  of any kind, which includes
11  all text, with or without
12  rhyme, commonly referred
13  to as poems but not
14  necessarily excluding other
15  written works which may
16  have poetic merit
17  because their ponderous
18  predilection for specification
19  would guarantee that any
20  interpretation could only be
21  resolved through litigation.

Life Begins

Your life begins
   continuously
in the moving instant
                  of now
on a ray of time
that extends from the
spot where you were born
out to the star you will leave
in the eternal sky.

Your Dream

If you had seen
only water when
you looked out
across the sea,
you would have
stayed home

                  but
you saw land

      somewhere
beyond the
            horizon

                  and
that is why
you began
      your journey.
